Mission Co-Op Sunday
As you know, the Pallotine Fathers are here for our Mission Co-Op Collection. Your donations will go to support the good work of this Religious Community. We are grateful for Fr. Noel’s presence and encourage you to be as generous as possible for the second collection this weekend.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Vivian Lane, who has just received her Lay Ministry Certificate from the Archdiocese of Hartford. Vivian specialized in pastoral ministry to Senior Citizens. Vivian and I will continue to be in dialog about a specialized outreach to our seniors. For now, she will continue to facilitate good communication between our parish community and our parishioners who are hospitalized.
Thanks
Thanks to Linda Williams, who was commissioned as an Extra-Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion last week. In addition to helping distribute Holy Communion at our weekend Masses, our EMHC’s also regularly visit the sick of our parish and take communion to almost 30 people in our parish each week. Thank You Linda, and thank you to each and every one of our Eucharistic Ministers.
The Parking Lot Movie
The Family Life Committee did a great job on our first ever Movie Night. Over 80 people attended and there were lots of children enthralled with Swiss Family Robinson. Family Life Committee Members, thanks for a great evening and thanks for everything you do for our parish.
Save the Date ? (Please read this one)
As you may have noticed, we are in the wedding season again. This year, for some reason, we have twice as many weddings as last year. I am sure you will agree that deciding to get married is one of the most important decisions a person is going to make in their lives. Because this is such an important moment in a person’s life, the friars try to meet with each couple four times. It is also very important for us to meet with the couple before any date is given or agreed upon for their wedding. Sadly, there have been cases in the past where the couple went out and booked a hall and made arrangements for the reception before they were sure that they could get married in the Church. When a couple calls to schedule a wedding, they are informed that they cannot set a date or reserve a date until they meet with one of the friars.
At this first meeting we try to make sure that the couple understands and agrees with what the Church teaches about marriage (or in other words, what they are getting into). We also make sure that they are able to be married in the Catholic Church.
New Members
As you can see from the pictures, there were lots of families registering for our parish last week. We only expected a couple of new families and 7 showed up. The registration nights are primarily the work of our Pastoral Council and they have been very successful. If you see anyone in the picture at Mass this weekend, please give them a warm St. Paul welcome.
Principal Search
The Principal Search Committee is busy working to find the best possible Principal for St. Paul School. This week, the committee met for 7 hours reviewing resumes and interviewing candidates for this most important position. Next week we will begin our second round of interviews. We hope to have this position filled within the first few weeks of July.
Cashiers
Two new cashiers or collection counters have joined our team. They are Diane and Beverly. We are grateful for the generous gift of their time. You may or may not know, but the Archdiocese has very strict rules and procedures when it comes to counting, balancing and depositing our collections into the bank. I’ve seen the cashiers stay for hours making sure that all of those procedures are followed and that the deposits balance.
Thank You from Fr. Peter’s Mom
Fr. Peter’s Mom wanted me to say thank you to everyone who made her feel so welcome during her stay. I am sure this is an exciting time for Fr. Peter and his family. As we approach his Ordination, please keep them in your prayers as the excitement and anticipation builds.
