There is nothing like a parish office meeting Tuesday Morning after a long weekend. The phones ring, the doorbell seems stuck and everyone seems a little frazzled. But “it's all good” as the kids say, because there are parishes where the priest sits and waits for the phone to ring. I would rather have lots of life and lots of excitement. I guess I'm in the right place.
Last week, a power surge, possibly from our friend the squirrel who made the 7:30 Mass pray in the dark, damaged the school's air conditioning. When we finally got it repaired and working, the air-conditioner flooded the library. The condensation pipe was clogged. The flood ruined several books from the biography section. Why else would Mother Theresa and Larry Bird be on the same shelf? The latches on the playground gate were tampered with and in the afternoon a couple of families found themselves locked in the playground. It took a Hail Mary and a screw driver to free them.
On the other side of the coin, the grass is beautiful, the gardens are being planted and people are always nice when they come out of Mass. Life is good and it is important to stop and remember that.
Last week we had our first meeting of the search committee for a Youth Minister. I am very please with the members . Each of them has a special gift they bring to the committee. We are really going to try hard to find the right person for this job.
We have several people in our parish who are very sick. The families are requesting prayers. Please make it a daily habit to remember the sick of the parish in your prayers. Remember what Jesus said; “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you.” I will give you more information on our parishioners who are sick when the families give me permission to do so.
I had to make this quick as we had to get the bulletin in early because of the Holiday.
