Parish Staff Working Retreat
The Parish Staff working retreat went wonderfully. While we were gone, some very important work was done in the Parish Center. The retreat gave us a chance to review the Calendar for the next 4 months and brainstorm how we could improve our “Customer or Parishioner service.” We also discussed how working for the Church is more than just a job. After a lengthy discussion we agreed that everyone who works for a Parish, should understand that their work is also a ministry, an opportunity to be of service to the local community and the Church-at-large.
Safety First - Safety Always
I am sure you agree that difficult times sometimes mean more desperate people. For a long time, I have been very concerned for the safety of the people who work in the Parish Center. When the door bell rings, and they open the door they are largely at the mercy of anyone who is standing there. Sometimes there is only one or two people in the Office. There have been several times this year when our staff has been uncomfortable with people who came to the door or demanded money. To give the good people who work in our parish office greater peace of mind, we have installed a service window in the inside hallway of the Parish Center. Now, when you come to book a Mass, the staff can serve you at the counter. This will afford them greater security and a way to exit should someone come to the door that concerns or frightens them. Don’t worry, you’ll receive the same smiling face and the same great service. It will just be at the security counter now.
Parish Center Electrical Problems
In a recent survey of the major electrical components on our property, it was determined that the main electrical service switch in the Parish Center was “running hot.” This means that eventually it would have failed and possibly caused a fire in the Parish Center. Our Insurance Company insisted that this be taken care of ASAP. The building committee spent a lot of time reviewing bids to get the job done right at the most reasonable expense. While the Parish Staff was away, the electrical service to the Parish Center was disconnected and the important work completed.
Sorry for any discomfort
To my dismay, last week it seemed that the air-conditioning in the New Wing had failed again. When we called the service company, it was determined that it was only a matter of a faulty setting. Whew! I promise, you’ll be more comfortable next week.
Our School
I am sure you will be impressed by all that has been accomplished in our school this summer. It’s hard to believe that the summer is already over. We can’t wait to see everyone back. Please see the insert to learn about what’s been going on at St. Paul School under the very able direction of our new Principal, Mrs. Piecewicz.
