A few months ago Class of 1980 St. Thomas Aquinas graduates Gary Naples and John Geragosian ran into each other. A topic of conversation was how many people in their class had passed away. This gave Naples an idea. “Wouldn’t it be nice to see fellow classmates?”
A class reunion idea was soon planned. But, as it was discussed, alumni from other years pitched in ideas. Soon the reunion grew. And now the plan is a reunion for all Aquinas graduates.
“We are basically charging the price of a stag ticket. The reason we are able to keep the cost down is because we are working with local businesses like Martin Rosols, and Avery’s Soda who will do a specialty Aquinas soda,” said Naples. “We will have bouncy rides for the kids.”
Naples said everyone should attend and remember, “we are all heavier, balder and grayer. This is not about vanity.”
“It’s becoming bigger than thought it would be,” said Class of 1987’s Zeena Tawfik, who is on the organizing committee. “We expect about 200 people. We’ve had so many positive responses. It’s a gathering to get together with like minds.”
The group hopes to do it annually and any profits will go towards a dog shelter, the New Britain Youth Museum and the Friendship Center.
“All schools had cliques and this is about going back to a simpler time,” Naples added. “We have someone coming from the first and last classes. We are also trying to get any faculty that are still with us.”
The reunion is set for Saturday, June 8 from 2-10 p.m. at the Quartette Club on Wooster St. The price of St. Thomas Aquinas Reunion 2013 is $25. After May 23rd it is $30.
