Origami Cranes for Kids
Our 1stand 4thgrade students participated in a nationwide program to help the children who have endured the hardships of earthquakes and a tsunami in Japan. Thanks to one of our parents, Amy Kurnik, they learned about the “Origami Cranes for Kids” program, sponsored by OshKosh B’Gosh children’s clothing company. For every origami crane it receives, OshKosh is donating one piece of clothing to children in Japan. Cranes represent health and good wishes in the Japanese culture, and this is what OshKosh wishes to convey. The company will present over 50,000 pieces of clothing to Japan and our Saint Paul School children helped!
In religion this year, Miss Brandl’s 1st grade students and Miss Sullivan’s 4th grade students studied volunteerism and charity. The students have shared many ideas, including how to make donations and use their own time to help those in need.
The concept of losing personal belongings can be challenging, especially for our 1st graders. Once the children learned about the kids they would be helping, they began to understand and feel the desire to lend a helping hand. Both classes worked very diligently to create beautiful cranes. The experience has taught them a life lesson that will not soon be forgotten.
