French Canadians are overjoyed by the signing into law by Governor D. Malloy on June 25, 2013 of French-Canadian Day in the State of Connecticut.
Bill 6671 was sponsored by State Senator Gary LeBeau and House Representative Russell Morin to “officially recognize the heritage and substantial contributions the French Canadians have brought to the State”.
It will be celebrated every year on June 24, the feast of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of French people.
This year, on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, there will be a French mass at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford followed by a ceremony at the State Capitol.
