We are very pleased to announce that Peter Wolfgang, Executive Director of The Family Institute of Connecticut, will be coming to St. Paul Church to speak to our concerned parishioners about the legislation of physician-assisted suicide (PAS) in CT. Mr. Wolfgang played a key role in defeating previously proposed PAS bills in CT and is in the forefront in speaking against it this year as well.
We are very fortunate to have Dr. Catherine Holmes as an additional guest speaker during Peter Wolfgang’s visit this Saturday at 5:30pm!
A little bit about Catherine …
Catherine met her husband during her third year of Medical School. They were married during her internship year and bought their first home in Southington where they became members of St. Dominic’s Church. They have a son, Jacob, age 13, and a daughter, Grace, age 11. Catherine moved her medical practice from New Britain to Southington to be closer to her kid’s school and activities. Her family later moved to Berlin in 2009 and became members of St. Paul Church. Catherine is a product of Catholic schools and her older brother, Gene, is an assistant principle at Kolbe Cathedral High School, a Catholic high school established by the Diocese of Bridgeport. Her brother Gene continues to be an inspiration to her and her family. Catherine greatly values the faith that her family and educators shared with her. Catherine graduated with an MD, Doctor of Medicine, from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, CT. When Catherine became a physician she took an oath to help patients and to do no harm. She sees PAS as incompatible with that goal, as do many physicians, and is willing to speak out and share her concerns. Catherine will be speaking to us from a physician’s perspective and will help us understand the role palliative care and hospice play in true compassion for the dying.
This special event will take place in the St. Paul church hall on Saturday March 28, at 5:30pm. Please mark your calendars and help spread the word!
