Saturday July 20, 2013 5PM Catholic Professionals Mass follow by Talk at 6PM
The Catholic Fellowship of Connecticut invites all Catholics in their 20s, 30s and 40s, both single and married, for the 5PM Catholic Professionals Mass on Saturday July 20th, at The Church of the Assumption in Westport, CT.
Following the Mass, meet the group in the Fr. McGrath Hall (beneath the Church) for by a talk starting at 6PM by our guest speaker Fr. Juan Gabriel Acosta on “Facing the Challenges in Marriage Life in the 21st Century.” The talk will focus on the couple understanding the nature of the commitment they are going to make in marriage life by explaining the four major stages which social scientists have observed marriage moves through, and the four stages by which marriage works. It is important to recall that each stage presents a unique learning path in the spiritual, human, and psychological sphere of human relationships.
After the talk, the group will go to a nearby venue for a social.
About our Guest Speaker:
Fr. Juan Gabriel Acosta, age 30, is one of the young adult priests newly ordained for the Diocese of Bridgeport. He was born in Cáqueza, Cundinamarca, Colombia. He is the only son of Juan de Jesus Acosta and Maria Quevedo Acosta. His parents and a sister, Miryam, currently live in Bogotá, Colombia, where they are members of San Antonio de Padua Parish. He went to elementary and high school in Bogotá, and attended the Seminario Mayor de San José where he was the champion of the double tennis tournament in 2004, and the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, graduating in 2006 with high honors (Summa Cum Laude) with a concentration in philosophy and theology.
Following graduation, he taught at the Colegio Nuestra Señora de Chiquinquirá in Bogotá. He worked as an assistant of pathology in the laboratory, and studied medicine at the Universidad Manuela Beltran. A friend who is a seminarian for the Diocese of Bridgeport suggested that he consider serving as a priest in this diocese, and he came to Connecticut in 2009. The Church of the Assumption in Westport is now his home parish where he serves as a Parochial Vicar. Fr. Juan has completed his seminary studies at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD.
